Selangor Revenue
Note: all Selangor revenue issues from R1 to Rxxx inclusive were produced by locally overprinting Straits Settlements revenue adhesives (portrait of Queen Victoria) with the state name SELANGOR in capitals
18xx. Long type revenues (Straits Settlements issue of 1874) overprinted Selangor in seriffed capitals (x mm), sideways reading upwards.
R1. 10c purple & black
R2. 25c purple & black
R3. 50c purple & black
R4. $1 blue & black
Notes:
1. The 10c and $1 values of this issue were discovered in 2014. The authenticity of the overprints has been questioned, but in my view they look identical to the widely accepted overprints on the 25c and 50c.
2. The 10c and 50c of the original Straits issue come in different types, distinguished by the length of the value inscription. The 10c with Selangor overprint has CENTS x mm wide, and the 50c has FIFTY x mm wide and CENTS x mm wide.
3. Recorded usage: xxx
18xx. Small format revenues (Straits 3c to $1 of 1882, plus the 3c, $1 and $2 of the 1887 bicolour issue) overprinted Selangor in capitals horizontally in various types.
