c1898. Elephants high values of Perak overprinted for Pahang.
R11. $50 on $5 green and blue
Note: This stamp is considered a revenue despite the Postage & Revenue inscription. Its existence was noted in Ewen's Weekly Stamp News in 1903 and there was some discussion about its intended purpose. The Superintendent of Posts and Telegraphs for Selangor and Pahang responded as follows: "The stamp to which you refer was issued as a result of a misunderstanding. Only 20 or so of them were sold and were in nearly every case attached at once to deeds. If I remember rightly, only 3 are unaccounted for. I need hardly say that no more of these stamps will be sold." Despite the reference to use on deeds, no used examples are known at present.
